Geothermal heat pump problem

I have a Mammoth Model DO35VSA1T Geothermal heat pump (water to air) in my house. When I initially ask it to heat it will kick on and the compressor comes on for a bit and then kicks off. It will continue to blow 95 to 100 degree air out of the vents. Heats the house up fine but when it goes off and then comes back on to reheat it just blows cold air until I turn it off and back on then it will heat. Any ideas. I have googled this and cannot find no info on this. Thanks in advance. I have no books on this unit, previous owner never had any either.

If your compressor goes off and your still getting heat, your strip heaters are coming on. You will find out when you get your electric bill if that is what's happening. I don't think you can get 100 degree heat out of the vents with the heat pump part of the geo system anyway. Best call a good heating place that is familiar with heat pumps or Geo units.

I think you have a low freon level. Mine does that when the level is low.

What MSD said. Your backup heat is coming on to meet the demand. Get it checked by a pro. Those systems are too expensive to mess up DIYing it. Really miss having geothermal at this place we are at now.

Perhaps a leak in the closed loop field? IF you are not moving water in the system it will light up the strips to call for more heat.

If you look in the small tank that connects between the lines coming in from outside and going to the furnace, you should be able to see the water level. If low or empty you have a line leaking. If full, it is your unit itself or it could still be the circulating pumps not coming on.

Thanks for all the advice. It ended up being low on freon and a bad ground for the circulating pump. $150.00 later and I have heat again.

Good you caught it. Had one of the homeowners that we built a house for that didn't realize what was going on till they got their monthly bill. Your $150 repair was cheap compared to their heat bill and then they still had to get the unit repaired.
