Aluminum Heli-coils

Their website says that they are made from stainless steel. If you are wondering if they can be used on aluminum, the answer would be yes.

Look for timeserts GM uses these to fix the bolt holes in the alum. northstar engines. They are to hold better then helicoils.

There are a few different ways to solve the problem of stripped threads in aluminium castings. There's Helicoils and then there are other inserts that are stronger. As the other poster mentioned GM approved devices for Cadillac Northstar engines, similar devices for VW air-cooled engines (case savers) and you'll probably find some in the Honda car hot rodding/tuning movement or motorcycle communities. Check with machine shops or supply stores, especially those that serve any of the above groups.

And Aircraft communities like Aircraft Spruce (business) in the Aircraft world you might have better like getting SAE or inch stuff.

It's very common for mil-spec aircraft equipment to be manufactured with helicoils installed, as the helicoil will be stronger than a tapped thread of the same diameter.

We used Keenserts on aluminum plates. Had a hard time to convince some of the engineers that you couldn't use the torque value used on steel
when tightening bolts in aluminum. Hal

(quoted from post at 16:00:01 11/12/12) What are you trying to do?

If it is a stud, you can buy studs in several oversizes oversize to go in engine block
