Do wash your caps? (Called ball caps now?)

Anyone know a good way to clean or wash ball caps?

I think most people probably just throw them away and get a new one, but I'd got a couple that I'd like to clean up without damaging them - especially the bill.

I wash my caps 4 or 5 times before I replace them. My wife use to wash them in washer but it ruined the bills of caps. I now put them in a sink and wash them by hand in warm water and laundry soap and hang them on clothes line till dry.

My wife washes mine in the washing machine in a plastic form and doesn't have a problem. The form prevents them from getting damaged and it helps retain the shape. I believe she got the form at Walmart.

works real good in the dishwasher or with a steamcleaner or pressure washer also....

Only time I'm not wearing a cap, is in bed, but I've been known to fall a sleep in my chair with my cap on.
Over the years I've tried everything, even those plastic molds! I wash my caps by hand.

I wash caps all the time, especially in the summer when I sweat a lot..a cap can get pretty rank. I ball up old newspaper about the size of a noggin so the cap keeps its shape. I wash them in the laundry tub with a scrub brush and laundry soap, rinse in hot water and stuff with nespaper ball and set them out on the deck to dry

Wash mine in the washing machine with my work clothes. Take them and put them on a cannister nto dry. Sometimes put a rubber band on the bill but not always. My hats/caps are fuctional only.(to cover my bald head) I make no fashion statements with my caps gobble

Some you can, some yoy cannot depending on material the bill is made out of. We have had that plastic form for many a year. The cardboard type bill will always go bad, plastic will usually stay good.

That's how I do it. Just throw 'em in the washing machine with the grungy work clothes, but I learned to NOT put the caps in the dryer. Just place 'em over whatever I can find so they keep their shape and let 'em air dry.

for work caps i wash mine while i am in the shower, a little shampoo, an old toothbrush, rinse and hang on shower head overnight. nicer ones eventually replaced and then used for work caps.

Dick2, Hand wash, with a small med/stiff bristle brush, & Blue Dawn soap, hang on a door knob / air dry. I don't like the plastic mold thing for it messes up the crease of bill and I don't do flat bills.

When mine get dirty, I throw them in the laundry hamper. At least one a week - mebbe two. Sweet wife washes them in the washer, stuffs a bath towel in them, and sets them on a shelf to dry. I wear them 'til they're frazzled. Like Tom sez - not a fashion statement, just a cover for a bald head.

An old joke - sure to rile someone - but it's a joke:

Know why farmer's cap bills are curled?

It's from looking in the mailbox for a government check. . .

It's a joke!!!

The one I am wearing now has been washed probably 50-60 times and is still good, faded, but good. Wash in washing machine and then put on plastic form to dry. It is a popular K-Brand cap made in Iowa, the best there is, others seem to fall apart after a few washings.

Never used to. Wear them till black then get another. Now that K-brand went chinese I have been washing a few. The few USA made ones I got left gotta last the rest of my life.

Wash them in the wash machine. The drier is what _kills_ them, the bill will mostyly hold up to the initial getting wet in the washer, but once soaked, it can't take the beating in the drier messes up the cardboard.

So air dry.

There is a plastic cage for them, got one at Harbor Frieght, yshaped like a cap, you put the cap in the cage & throw in the washer, keeps them in shape better. It does seem to help.

Been washing my "ball" caps for years.
Top load washing machine can ruin the bill, dryer does for sure. Front load machine works the best. Wife tosses the washed hat on the bleach bottle in the laundry room to dry.

Yep...another folically impared person....don t. ...

I have a couple in the truck I only wear when the sun is low. Rest of the time I wear the soft kind with the brim all around, throw 'em in the washer.

Browse the Goodwill and Salvation Army for the right size bowl or tupperware dish. Slip cap on it and use stiff small bristle brushand Dawn.
Hang on knob by rear strap and let it drip dry.

They use a form and wash them in the washing machine. Steam them and press them if they really look bad when they are done.

I use a small ice chest with soapy hot water and let them soak- ice chest keeps the water warm longer. If you want sloshing action put it on the back of your pickup for a jaunt. Rinse under a faucet, let it drip dry on a plastic hanger.

I do the same thing. I"ve got an outdoor shower set up for summer use.....heat the water via the sun in an overhead 55 gal barrel. ('just got to remember to refill it after each use) I wash my hats with shampoo while taking a outdoor shower...hang em' on a nail on the post. 'Usually dry by morning.

I've tried hand washing them with not so good results. Usually now I just throw a cap in the washing machine. Air dry using the bottom end of a 4 litre ice cream pail seems to keep the shape pretty well.

I found a bowl that the hats will sit down in just right with the bill pointed down then fill with water and dish soap, let soak and then rinse and let dry, works real good. I never had good luck with a hat I liked in the laundry, always messed them up.

I throw mine in the washer with my work clothes and air dry it. I always wear a cap, especially in the barn where a hat is useful for cleaning the low beams of cobwebs.
