Oil less air compressor

I think my Sears Oil less air compressor took a dump. It's close to 20 years old. I used it yesterday and it runs but will barely make 40# of pressure in the tank. Can these be repaired, or are they just a throw away and replace unit? I would like a bigger 2 stage compressor, but not sure I need one, just would like to have one. I'm 60, if the next one lasts 20 years, it will probably outlast me. Chris

More than likely the flapper valves in the head are either dirty or burnt. Sometimes you can clean them but most likely they will need to be replaced. Anyway if it were me I would get the 2 stage compressor if for no other reason then get away from the noise.

My oil less compressor took a dump, it was the leather like piston ring fell apart. I rebuilt it and it took another dump. I dumped it off at the recyclers. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER NOISY OIL LESS COMPRESSOR. I would buy an old used compressor before buying an oil less. My oldest compressor is almost 60 years old. Change the oil. It will last me a lifetime too, 63.

I worked as a hardwood floor installer for a couple of years. We considered the oil less compressors the only way to go. Light weight. We also bought 2 or 3 at a time and considered them almost as expendable as sandpaper. Ellis

Have sold,traded,and worked on compressors. An oiless has its place and use BUT BOTH [place/use]are limited.
Working on one is most times not worthwile to me.
Buy a good one you only live once. Ed

My little Stanley-Bostich did the same when it was about 2 years old. I was able to buy a new valve plate quite resonable and it was as good as new, a noisey little POS, but handy!

Can an oiless compressor be rebuilt with an oil
type pump and regular motor??

Problem solved. Menards extended their 11% rebate for one more week, so I went over this afternoon and bought a 60 gallon single stage belt drive air compressor for $499 - 11%. Now I have to unload it and wire it up. Thanks for all the reply's. Chris
