If it's only 6 years old the computer will have USB ports, probably down near the network jack. Just plug it in and it should work, you don't need to plug it into the round (PS1) connector.

If you don't have enough USB ports you can install an expansion card with more.

I'm typing on a 7 year old HP desk top right now using a wireless keyboard and wireless mouse. Monday we're going to have a wireless printer too. You just plug the little sender thing into a USB port and you're good to go. A USB port is a flat connector and you computer should have several of them. Jim

I prefer a wired optical mouse for the light weight and no batteries. I you want a wireless mouse it might be the simplest to just get a new USB wireless mouse, the features, cost and battery life are very good now.

Some of the first wireless mice worked with only the round (green?) mouse connector. The connector had a wire leading to a stationary transmitter nearly as large as the mouse itself. Newer wireless mice work with a USB port. Some wired USB mice came with an adapter for the USB to connect to a round mouse connector. I don't know if that adapter would work with a wireless mouse.

Those older wireless mice are available on ebay, prices vary a lot, shipping is usually more than the price of the mouse. The older ones eat batteries fast. Use rechargable batteries in them (less weight too).

Older computers can be short on USB ports. You can add a PCI card with extra USB ports too.

Seems like I have a round adapter that goes to the flat one. If it is an HP you should have some flat USB ports on it somewhere. All the computers I have had since 2001 have had them. The little receiver just plugs in to any USB port. Doesn't have to be the one on the back. I am using a Logitech wireless mouse right now on an old e-Machine tower that is over five years old. Only thing I don't like about them is unless you turn the mouse off when you aren't using it, the battery doesn't last too long.

There are two wireless types of "mice". One takes a small transmitter that plugs into a USB port, a small narrow flat opening. A USB port can be in either the veritcal or horizontal orientation. The mouse itself will have a battery inside with an on/off switch. There is another type of mouse that operates from "Bluetooth" and works from the same hardware built in a computer as taking it to a motel or McDonalds where wireless internet is available. A USB mouse is more consistent than a bluetooth mouse. Depending on how your computer was configued at the time of purchase will determine if a wireless mouse will work.

Most every wireless mouse I've seen uses a USB port. If you have a USB port, you just plug in a little adapter that comes with the mouse. If you don't have a USB port, you can get a USB adapter card for a desktop computer pretty cheap.

Our computer is over 6yrs old and we have a wireless mouse and keyboard.
I use rechargeable "AA" batteries for the mouse.
We have no complaints.
