Rear 3pt leaf rakes?

Since this is a tractor website and it is the fall season and I have a lot of leaves to blow into a pile, or runover many times with a lawn mower. Is there a rear 3pt leaf rake in existence? Is there such an animal? Post a picture if there is such a thing. It would make my life easier. The leaf blower takes a long time.

I picked up a lawn sweeper for behind my lawn tractor. It sweeps everything up into a bin then you just pull a rope to lift and empty the bin.
It works pretty well, you do sometimes have to go over some ground more than once but it's a real time/work saver.

I thought about trying my landscape rake for leaves and I'm sure it would be ok but it probably wouldn't be all that gentle on the lawn.

wait till the fallen leaves have dried out, block the exit chute of mower and then mow. leaves disintegrate into very small pieces and disappear. i made mine from a 2 gallon plastic oil jug trimmed to fit and strapped it on with bungee cords. works good.

I have a garden tractor sized wheel rake - pull behind, six wheels. Works fairly well for gathering loose cut grass, leaves, as long as you don"t get too deep! Not good for raking loose dirt in the garden. Also doesn"t do a great job of dethaching, but as a leaf/grass rake does fairly well. (As long as you want your leaves windrowed.) Covers about a 5 foot swath.

Couple years ago I built this boom for my tractor. With the boom I can wrap the chain harrow around the bottoms of trees. If you go forward and stop fast you can get the chain harrow to swinging, and cast it way out in front of you.

I was given a lawn sweeper and don't think I would ever want to deal with leaves or lawn clippings any other way again. It works great. I had always thought that if they were any good, every one around me would have one. People without are just missing a real work saver.

I developed a new use for those large dog cages, that you find on Craigs List.

This one holds 24 cubic feet of mulched leaves, dumps, folds up flat and hangs on the wall.

If you really want something for picking up leaves, check with commercial turf equipment dealers and look for an old Rogers, Jacobsen, Olathe or Toro sweeper. There are pull type and self propelled ones. They are all basically the same but the later ones have ribbed fingers. Originally designed by Rogers and bought by Jacobsen but Olathe was started by Rogers and sold to Toro many years later. Will pick up leaves, small branches and debris like nobodies business and have a large hopper.

If you're thinking of using a landscape rake, they don't work well for leaves. You'll just wreck your lawn. What kind of leaf blower are you using? Handheld blowers are useless, and backpack units aren't much better. I have a 5hp Little Wonder walk-behind that works pretty good, although I have to make three passes over the fall so the leaves don't get too thick.

If you have a lot of lawn to clear, you might consider a three point hitch mounted blower. They start around three grand.

I do the same thing I never rake my yard. But I take a rotary hoe in spring and go over the whole yard, I also lime the yard every other year.

When the leaves really get to me, I use the front Dearborn blade on the old Ford. Has a rubber bottom and with the right touch plows the leaves into piles quickly.
If you decide on the lawn sweeper route, I have one that's sitting around - came with an old lawn tractor someone gave me. Very good sweeper - Parker Trailette - heavy, not anything like you would get at a store. Not sure where you're located or if it would be worth the shipping hassle though.

Good Luck

Tony

I made one out of a piece of pipe and hayrake teeth. Actually works pretty well. Does tend to fill up pretty fast. I like the lawn vac's below!
