- sorry, but I have to vent

This is a rhetorical qusetion - I don't think it really has an answer.

But WHY ON EARTH can tool manufacturers NOT MAKE A TOOL CASE THAT FITS THE TOOL PROPERLY ONCE IT"S BEEN TAKEN OUT.

More specifically - most of them are designed to fit the tool well - but it's like they didn't know it had a wire attached to it.

For the love of god - would it KILL THEM to make the case a few inches bigger so you can can actually FIT THE WIRE.

I'm so SICK of coiling wires - stuffing them in the case and hoping they don't pop out - which they always do - and then they get stuck in little protrusions in the case preventing it from closing-

How hard can this be????

Just got a makita cordless - great case - but try to put the charger back in there and forget it - it's like closing a suitcase that's too full - you have to press it down hard to latch it.

Porter cable router - great case - router fits right in snuggly... but there's no where to put the wire - you can try to be neat with it, but it won't fit - you have to hold the lid down and feed the wire in in little bits to get it in there.

Milwaukee hammer drill...

I could go on for hours here.

Milwaukee angle grinder - great canvas bag - just don't try to close it with the grinder in there.

CAN'T STAND IT.

What's so frustrating is they go through the whole manufacturing proccess to make the bag/box anyways -thats where all the cost is - why not just spend an extra .002 and make it a little BIGGER.

Ok - got it out of my system.

I'm better now.

And I should give credit to milwaukee's sawzall with the metal case. That one fits the wire pretty well...

(but not the saw if you've got a large blade in it!)

This is how I do it.

1. Buy tool
2. Put charger with other chargers if it has one.
3. Put tool on shelf or drawer with others similar.
4. Throw the gay plastic case in the trash.

that's what I ultimately do too -

But EVERY TIME - I still try. I figure it won't be so bad.

We're living in modern times here, surely they've advanced the art of case design...

This subject came up earlier - I end up buying/making my own cases. But I just had to vent on how ridiculous it is.

There are some great tools being made - why do they get the EASY part so wrong.

CORDS!

Dewalt sawsall in a plastic case will not fit in the original case because the cord is like a coiled snake and will not stay in position long enough to close the lid.

Cords on new tools are too short and stiff to reload into the orignal container. They are too stiff and constantly get into the tool cutting area or are easily caught on surounding structure preventing the tool from moving freely. I stretch them out in the heat of the Sun to get them straight and if they are wound up they quickly resume the shipping position or all coiled up.

Milwaukee seems to have the solution in their products which have the tool cord which plugs in right at the tool base. It can also be easily replaced if it gets cut or damaged.

agreed - wouldn't it be nice if the entire tool industry could just standardize on something like milwaukee's design and have universal, removeable cords on EVERYTHING.

that would solve a lot of problems.

they can compete on the tools, not the wire.

You're so right. I use my little Dremel with a small cut off wheel to notch out the plastic case for a little more room. TDF

I put most of my tools in canvas tool bags and throw the plastic cases in the recycle dumpster.

I agree with what your saying 1000%, so I'm not trying to be a smart azz her, but the biggest problem is that everyone will get on a site like this and vent their frustrations to everyone in the world. What they neglect to do is get on the mfg's site and vent to them. If EVERYONE having a problem would go to the mfg's site and clog their email (or snail mail) boxes with their complaints, tell them your not going to buy their product if they don't make come changes, then maybe something would get done. Like my grandpa used to tell me when I'd shake my head, "I can't hear your brains rattle". Same goes here, if the mfgs don't hear from the consumer they have no reason to ever make any changes.

Well I have thought about the cases for many moons, And ya know what I came up with? It is that them ther cases are the BEST Dam shipping boxs out there!!

You have hit the nail on the head. These are modern times and they have advanced the art of case design. Just they use CAD programs where they can make it fit EXACTLY inside the case.

Usually after the cords relax from factory packaging where they can coil round and round instead of back and forth they seem to fit loosly in the case. My porter cable router and bosch router both fit like that in their case. Drills the same way but I have since pitched those.

I agree with the charger cords but those stay on the bench from day one.

Don't %itch at us we did not make it e/amil the company or better yet Do something old fashioned and call them and give them hello . I just did that on the new Mason boots i just got as to the quality and the lack of a removable insole that THEY USE TO put in the boot. and trust me i was not Mr. Nice guy about it.

Close the empty case. Drill a 1/2" hole in the joint where the lid and bottom come together, making sure that 1/2 of the hole is on each side of the joint. Make sure it's convenient for the tool in it's storage position in the box. Throw the tool in, drape the cord thru the notch that you drilled. Shut the lid. I know - it sounds stupid, and I haven't actually done this - but I've been sorely tempted.

I'm still trying to figure how they pack the darned things into that case at the factory! I like to keep the cardboard box that a lot of tools come in and put the tool back in the box for storage, but they have figured that if they leave off a piece or two and let the customer assemble it, they can use a smaller box, soooo, when I get everything together, it won't go back into the box!
NC Wayne is 100% correct! So many people complain to everyone except the manufacturer. Nothing wrong with voicing your opinion to others, but if you don't contact the factory directly, they won't know of your dissatisfaction.

They probably have the same brain dead engineers design the cases that design the tools. The tools don't last long enough to need a case anyway. I never use the cases.

I've never had a problem with the older ones in a metal case. For the ones in plastic cases I use Velcro type fasteners that are made for cords, they work quit well.

Im with you 100%, drives me crazy when I have to spend more time getting the tool back in the case than it took to do the actual job! The only thing that I can figure is that they are trying to keep costs down, hence the smaller case.

I agree with you 100%, when I open a new tool case for the first time I spend a few miniutes studing how I am going to get it all back in the case when I have finished with it. MJ
