OK, welders, I have a question...

I have a friend that went to a "clean up" auction, at a welding shop, got some mig wire, gave me the option of buying it, if it would work for me. It is Arcos X5239-G861. I tried to contact arcos, can't get the email to even deliver! Anybody have an Idea if it can be used on steel and iron welding. It is steel wire, magnetic, but appears to be clad in nickel or stainless, not copper clad, as the stuff I normally use. Thanks

It it isn"t sealed or less than a couple months old, I would leave it alone. You can get a 44lb spool for around $50-55. Elbor brand.

861 ERNi-1 EN/RN61 Weld wrought and cast forms of commercially pure nickel ASTM B160, 161, 162 and 163.

Got this off the Arcos site.

+1 pm ditching it.

I run good consumables, all Hobart and Lincoln brand stuff and its honestly not even that expensive, you get a lot of milage out of a $30, 10lb spool of mig wire and you can get a LOT of projects done with a $50, 25lb box of Hobart stick electrodes.

IMHO, unknowns and cheap consumables arent worth it.
