Made an Anvil

I have been using a 16 inch piece or rail for an anvil for several years, Also for about 35 years have had a piece of mild steel 2.5 x6x 12. Today i welded the flat piece to the top of the rail with 4 inches of the rail extending beyond the flat bar, Then I welded a 7 inch piece of 2 inch round th the extended part of the railand to the flat bar. This round part will serve somewhat like a horn. I do not plan to do any blacksmithing but i think this crude anvil will be handy.

We used to have a local blacksmith that had a big trip hammer in his shop. He made some slick looking small anvils out of pieces of railroad rail.

I have a number of different things I use as anvils. Rail iron is one a 6 inch diameter piece of well casing, a piece of I-beam and a few other things. Need to get the smoke stack for the forge hooked up so we can use it but that is one of those low priority things. I do have a steel topped welding table in my shop and it has my grand fathers vise mounted on it and that vise is at least 100 years old. Have plans to extend the I-Beam rail system in my shop so I can pull something off a truck bed right into the shop
