Maytag washer

We have an older Maytag washer model A 608. It will agitate or pump water out, but when it tries to spin and pump at the same time the motor thermal over load cuts out.
Has anyone had any experience with this.
I'm thinking that it has a bearing that needs oil or replacing. Motor bearing, pump bearing, or a bearing in the gear box. I have no idea what the inside of the gear box is like, or even if the gear box can be torn apart and be repaired.

Thanks for any input,
Dusty

My Amana started doing that, the motor was bad. New
motor $220, New washers start at $319. Don't know
what washer you really have Maytag bought Amana and
sold some Amanas with a Maytag name on them.
Amanas don't have a transmission they use a 2 speed
motor.

The A608 is an old school Dependable Care series, I think. Does it have a blue agitator with the lint filter in the agitator with a fabric softner dispenser on the top? If so, it's what Maytag earned their reputaion with. Definately worth fixing IMHO.
If you don't, take the steel tub out of it. It makes a great firepit for the beach.

I agree with that! I had one that came with my first house, wish I would have kept it. All I ever had to do to it was replace the wig-wag (yes, that's it's real name) and lubricate a few parts and it worked great. My ex claimed it was ruining some of her clothes so I sold it and bought a new one, turns out it was just her. Should have done that the other way around, kept the washer and.........well anyway.

Thanks for the encouragement guys. At the time I was very busy and didn't feel like trying to fix it.

I did get to it this week end and found that the pump needed replacing. Got a new pump and got it installed it today. Wife is happy.

Thanks
Dusty
