I used to buy my media from a local sandblasting company in bulk , but they decided to stop selling it to the public . Then to owner of that firm said to buy childs play sand in bags at local lumber suppliers or Wall mart or Home Depot . Its only 2-3.00 per bag & it works quite well for my needs . I get a lot of blasting projects done from each bag . When it seems to just make a lot of dust , its time to dump it & refill with a new bag . Then I use the sand I just dumped in my small portable gravity feed blasting tub until its gone . My thoughts are to get the most out of a bag of sand (waste not) . HTH ! God bless, Ken

I buy it from TP Tools.

Be careful using regular sand as media due to silica that might be in it and the dangers it poses in the form of Silicosis.

i get some of my blast media from tp tools, i like the aluminum oxide media. also, the crushed recycled glass is a good media too, not as aggresive as the alum oxide. keep your air pressure between 70 to 90 psi. resist the urge to crank it up. all you will do is wear out your media, your gun and your tip. go with the carbide tips.

(quoted from post at 18:15:11 10/02/12) Now that I have a cabinet and will be reusing the media I was curious where you folks buy your media. I see Skat-Blast, TSC, and Grainger"s etc, etc.

As long as you are using a cabinet blaster, with a dust collecter, you can use silica sand. No problem with silica dust, because it is all enclosed and you will not be breathing it. Silica sand is VERY effective and is also the least costly blasting media out there.

You guys are great. I really appreciate all the leads and the OE [operating experience]. The cabinet does have a skat blast dust collector and I've ducted the exhaust outside. Silicosis is nasty, nasty stuff. I've found that play sand tends to be a bit too fine and not as aggressive as I'd like on most things. I've not used glass too much except for aluminum parts. Thanks again.
