Tell Me What This Hook Is For

Could someone tell me what this hook was used for? I believe I saved it from a barn I tore down several years ago.

I am going to guess that it may be half of the business end of a two man ice carrier. I have one I can take a picture of to back up my view, but I am not totally sure about it either.

Can't hook which is only one part of a rig made to roll logs into a saw mill or other such needs of rolling a log over

I go with OLD and Tracy, Used them in the logging operation. Rolled logs up skid poles to the saw mill carriage or onto truck or wagon.

I still use one.Its called a cant hook;If there is a spike at the end of the wood handle its called a Peavey.

Ever seen that movie "Jaws"? Remember the scene where the sheriff was chumming the water and saw the shark eyeball to eyeball and waked into the cabin as pale as a ghost and told the boat owner "I think you're going to need a bigger boat"?. Well, I think you're going to need a bigger boat. A much bigger boat, or much bigger barn if thats for catchin one of them barn sharks that eat cattle in the middle of the night.

Actually, by the looks of it, as others have said, its half a pair used for lifting, dragging, etc. If I were you, I would mount it to a timber in the barn near the door and use it for "your" coat hook. Anyone else can hang their coat on a nail, because that is "your" coat hook.

Good luck.

It is one side from an ice block tongs. Notice the curve of the log hook has a deeper curve. A cant hook is much smaller. And also has a different shape hook.

Ice tongs had racetrack shaped handles that were perpendicular to the hook.
The pivot hole was near the middle

I have ice tongs in the harness room in the barn.I have been around since the ice man delivered ice.

I think it's likely half a log tong. Cant hooks have more of a bend to them to clear the log and usually a triangular shape to the point, at least all mine do. Log tongs are put in closer to the end of a log where there's more clearance and don't need as much bend.
