I have a Century welder, Model 155GS. It is 11 years old and probably has less than 1 hour total welding time on it. My problem is that lately when using it, it surges or shudders. I can hear the main transformer humming and stop humming. the wire seems to start and stop. Someone suggested that the wire liner is worn at the curve in the handle and that causes the stop stop because the wire is pinched. I don't think that would make the transformer to start stop. Can anyone help??

Take the side panels off and check the connections on the transformer, I bought one from Century at the state fair. Was reconditioned but had trouble right away, tried putting a new circuit board in it but still acted up, ended up someone forgot to tighten the transformer connections. Century used to have a toll free number you could call for help but I think they got bought out by Lincoln.

I took your advise, but every connection was tight and no wires were loose or broken. I have been trying to find where to call, but google search doesn't find a factory site, and they seem to sell parts throght dealers only. I'll just keep on searching and digging around. I don't have any choise as my buget hasn't room for a bunch of parts in hope that one of them with fix it and I can't sell it in this condition. Thank you for your suggestion.
