Can the treehouse be seen from off the property? If it can't maybe you need to file a trespassing complaint. Might cruise through town and make a list of things that aren't permitted and show up at a council meeting expecting them to "fix" everything if you give them 2 or 300 violations and make it quite clear that their action on your tree house sets a precedent they might back down. In political speak they are a zero sum you or the guy that's complaining is gonna be upset. But if they get a list of garden sheds, tents, tent garages out buildings, signs, unlicensed and non-operational vehicles, commercial vehicles parked in residential areas as well as a list of every pothole, every sidewalk that is non ADA conforming, every intersection that doesn't have an ADA compliant curb cut and faded or obstructed traffic signs they realize that several hundred people will be mad and they are out of money for repairs that's enough for them to not get re-elected. Demand they tell you who complained, when they balk mention that the 8th amendment gives you the right to know your accuser and let them know they'll be a co-defendant. If it can't be seen from off property then go for the trespassing charge. You'll still have to take down the treehouse but they might have to eat criminal charges

Sounds to me like, according to the lawyer, if it's not in the regs then it must be illegal. I wonder how many things that aren't in the regs that the lawyer in question, the zoning inspector, the neighbor, the mayor, the town counsil members, etc, etc, etc, etc are guilty of doing or not doing because the regs don't mention them???? If it was me I think I'd be making the rounds to find the dirt on all of them and DARE them to keep messing with me because I'd be messing right back. It's amazing how an individual not being afraid of lawyers, and/or idiots, and standing up for himself tends to put them in their place in a hurry.......

Easy solution. Tear down the treehouse, then find out who the whiney neighbor is. Then send the kids and all their friends along with the rest of the towns kids (talking hundreds and hundreds of kids here) to play in front of this idiots house every night and every weekend. Be sure it's something annoying like skateboarding, basketball (be sure and bounce the ball a lot), hide and seek....anything with lots of noise. Payback is He11.
