Been looking to add a Mig for light jobs. I have a Linclon and Miller 230 amp AC for heavy dirty stuff and found a Century 170GS with tank, it"s 230v/210amp. The AD says (Century made by Lincoln) it looks like a Lincoln but I just want to know if it ok, without alot of problems, I will be using it for lighter jobs and could easily get by with a 110v, but this one has the gas bottle and I have plenty of 230v outlets. |

| Quoting Removed, click Modern View to seeYou asked if anyone had owned one. I did once.....overnight.....couldn't wait for the store to open the next morning to return that POS. Twice the money for decent Lincoln or Miller, but they can actually be made to weld! |

| Century has been a bottom line for years.I fixed a century ac/dc welder that had a shorted diode.DC was rated at 150 amps but the 2 diodes in the welder were 85 amp.I replaced the shorted diode with a 150 amp I had on hand.I told the owner I would replace the other 85 amp diode if it shorted.Saw him a year later, he said was working ok.No switch for dc welding ,only 2 diodes, no capacitor,A bare bones welder.Lincoln may build them better after they bought out Century, maybe not.I came close to buying a new Century mig but paid more for a used Miller. |

| My neighbor and good friend had a Century buzz box. It had 2 taps and a crank handle for heat selection.
For a buzz box that was a real nice welder to weld with. It was easy to strike an ark with.
I think the crank had a chain to the moveable iron core.
Dusty
I think that welder was made before 1950.

| I have a Snap-on built by century. Its a 240 anp. I've had it for 20 years. I had to change the circuit board in once. Been a good mig welder and have used it a lot. I think parts are starting to be a problem to get. a friend has one like it and needed a fan and had to buy it after market. |

| I doubt Snap-On would source machines from Century. They are a lower end machine. Some Snap-On welders were built by CK Systematics though. |

| Maybe not, but the parts came from Cemtury. I guess Century supplied parts for whoever did build them. |

| Ive got a 110 I bought in the mid 90's. It works good for sheet metal and body work. However the duty cycle is very low and I cannot weld a lot with it before the breaker trips. Its more or less a sheet metal welder and nothing much heavier. I need to get something bigger as well. It is made by lincoln. I believe this is their low end welder that they sell for big retail outlets. I bought mine at Sams Club. |

| I have a 120 volt one. The gun is hot when ever the power switch is on. I bought it used, it's for sale. I bought a new 120 volt Lincoln, I like much better.
Not sure but I don't think Lincoln built my Century.
