I have a pacemaker so I can't use a gasoline chain saw because of interferrence to the pacemaker from the electrical ignition system on the chain saw.

I think I could use a diesel chain saw, provided it isn't too heavy to lift. A turbo diesel is out of ther question - LOL

Does anybody make a diesel chain saw ? Seems like I saw a post one time about ECHO selling a diesel chain saw but only in Canada. I guess we have the green weenies at the EPA to thank for that.

I also heard that there was one from Russia too.

Anyway, if you know of one I'd like to hear about it.

Thanks,

Well I bit the bullet and ordered the 15 amp Worx 18" electric chain saw from Wally World.

Now when I get it I'll test it out and try to post my review of its performance.

Considering a 4 Kw Workforce generator set. I have a Workforce pressure washer and seems to be ok.

Thanks for your help.

I was told the same thing...use a chain saw and weed eater anyway. No ill effects. Also go through airport scanners; that will turn the pacer off briefly, but as soon as I leave the field it comes back on.

Can you imagine the strength that you would need to pull the starter rope? Our tractors can be diesel, because we have electric starters to handle the added compression. Might be like the early Merc saws, and rip your glove off, when trying to start them.

Ever heard of compression release? Most all large gas chainsaws and small diesel engines have it no reason a diesel saw wouldn't.

I had a Medtronics pacemaker implaanted last Nov. and both the manufacturer and my cardioligist told me the same thing--no gas powered chain saw. I really don't understand why I can run gas powered push mower, leaf blower and string trimmer but no chain saw. Cardioligist did say he could program PM where I could run saw but battery life would only be about 4 years where it is now about 11 years. I'll just give up burning wood and get someone else to trim limbs off trees in yard.

The midnight walmart shoppers are gonna start bashin pretty quick, but before you blow your money on that stihl, take a look at these... Or that WORX that G Marsh is talking about. The inverter ain't a bad idea, I have one that I switch between the car and tractor to power stuff that is just slickern' snot.....

I have recently had a PM put in and I'm around equipment running non resistor wires and plugs all the time with no problems. I have even done some TIG welding, with zero side effects.

Call the manufactures tech support line. You were supplied with that information in the packet they set you. It's also listed on the card you are supposed to carry around with you. Chances are you have one made by St Judes, like I do.

Tech support told me they are shielded pretty good now a days. They said with welding, to strike an arc for 5sec. and wait 30 sec. strike another for 5 sec. and wait 30 sec.. If this doesn't make you dizzy, do it for 10 sec. wait 30. keep increasing time until you feel light headed or dizzy. If you don't get dizzy or light headed have at it.

Chainsaw is no problem for me.

Shield the pace maker from emf, or shield the saw, When you do not want emf pulses put a metal box around either to keep emf in or out. Should be of ferris metal. Get your self a suit of metal and ground it, lol

We accidently used diesel to mix chainsaw gas once then topped off the saw with it. Couldn't stand to run it for the smoke. Eyes burned the rest of the day. Didn't take long to figure out what happened.

I think as mentioned that the correct plug will suppress any radio waves from the ignition system. Although... this is probably one of those times that the doc will tell you it's a no no to cover his back...
I know a couple guys with pace makers. They still use chainsaws.
They're still alive.

AG, most all chain saws run resistor plugs, so the RF would/should not be an issue? Oregon makes a pretty stout cordless saw now, it will make about 125 cuts in a 4" log per battery charge, as per Oregon. They also have a power sharp self sharpening system on them. They sell for about 400.00

AG48,

Will an electric chain saw cause you problems? Not sure if the universal motor creates that much static. Can use a circular saw, corded drill, mix master, vacuum sweeper, trim saw? They all have the same motor.

My lungs won't let me use a 2 cycle or diesel.

WORX makes a 4 peak hp 18 inch saw. Sears sells it under the craftsman brand.

I love mine. I have 250 ft of 12g cords. I can drag the wood closer to the barn. Or use a 3250w generator made for camping, if I want to go to the woods.

Well, I have a hydraulic drive chain saw in the rafters of one of my sheds. Took it in as payment for work. It has a tractor pto driven hyd pump and oil tank that hangs on the tractor pto shaft.
Has about 15 ft of 1/2 inch hyd hose to the saw.
Has a little valve on the saw to bleed a little hyd oil on the saw chain to lube it.

It is new and unused, but I cant tell you the brand. It's green LOL. The fellow who traded it to me used to be a dealer for the saw.

I'd like that with about 100 ft of hose on it just for some peace and quiet while cutting wood.

Dear Goose: That is an idea. I've never been impressed with electric anything when compared with gasoline or diesel, but maybe they have improved them since I last looked. I don't know about an inverter though. The Stihl electric draws 15 amps at 120 volts, which is 1.8 kw. That would be a pretty big inverter. Do they make them that big? Probably better to get a 3 kw engine/generator. That drives up the cost to an unacceptable level to me though. Of course it would depend on what a diesel chain saw would cost.

I guess I'll just have to go back to an axe.

1.8 KW is 1800 watts, I know they make inverters at least to 1500.

They make them to at least 3000 w, I have a 2500 in my truck. Using a chainsaw on it tho would drain a battery in short order and fry an alt. almost instantly.

Hello AG44,
Did your doctor say no chain saw?
Lots of the new one have a resistor plug, so not much radio wawes I would think. Yea! the make diesel chainsaws, mostly they are a bad joke!
I saw a 2 cycle diesel chain saw run but never saw it cut.It smoked like a freight train!

I've never heard of one, but anything is possible.

I understand the Germans had diesel bomber and transport planes in WWII.

In your situation, would it be possible to run an electric saw off of an invertor connected to a tractor or pickup battery?

The Germans did indeed have a large 8 engine diesel powered transport plane late in WWII but it was largely experimental.
