I have a friend who has a Sears Craftsman power washer that suddenly will only run on full choke. Techumseh 6 hp engine. Carb is sealed so there are no adjustments - any ideas? I suggested Dry Gas and Gumout.

Thanks, I passed the info along. He said there is no nut on the bottom of the bowl for removal, I told to jusy try and unscrew the bowl- maybe the bowl itself is threaded?

OLD,
Every Techumseh engine I've owned had some kind of carb problem. The only luck I've had is taking them apart, spraying carb cleaner in the jets and using compressed air to clean them out. Some carbs were impossible to fix. Perhaps, that's why Techumseh went out of business.

You can find new carbs and carb parts on Amazon. I'm sure there are other places too.
LOL:)

Same here.

I've rebuilt many of those carbs over the years, but my preferred way of dealing with them is to just buy a new carb.

I don't know if they're better or worse than other engines - just seems everything I've ever owned has had a techumseh.

In the future, if you have a fuel shutoff valve - use it, and run the carb dry every time you're done with the machine. Especially on something like a power washer that may sit unused for months at a time.

Tecumseh was bought out and the parent company stopped production of the engines but had thought about bringing the engines back. It seems bizarre they stopped production when almost every snow thrower used a Tecumseh Snow King. Maybe they needed to spend a fortune to meet new emissions laws?

Yep I agree they had some of the worse carbs you could find and the ones on the 2 stroke engine where worse then the ones on the 4 stroke engine

Carb sealed????? Never seen one that you could not at leas remove the float bowl and get to the main jet to clean it out. Worked on 2 of them pain in the back side Tecumseh engines yesterday both had spark and carb problems and both are the older 2 stroke engine which I double hate to work on. Bet you if you drop the float bowl then spray carb cleaner up the main jet area it will clear up
