I have a floor jack probably 20 years old.

The handle falls down and I found a broken spring. The thickness of the wire is .18 inches, the outside of spring is 1.03 in, the inside of spring is .66, the remaining arm is 2.0 measured from center of spring th assumed length of the missing arm 1.5.

I could not find an id on the jack but it was purchased from Sams club years ago.

Any help in finding this would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Brad

have fixed several planter springs by driving and old screw driver between the coils near where the bend needs to be so the heat from the torch won't effect the adjacent coil, heat to a bright red it will begin to give on it's own, then slowly shape the way it needs to be while keeping it hot,let it cool on it own

I would think, if you had a torch, you could heat the first coil of the broken end and uncoil it. Just a thought of what I would try.

Do you have a scrap yard that allows you to "shop" nearby? I see that style jack in there all the time. I believe I actually got a spring off one for a buddy of mine a while back.

I'm going "shopping" here in a bit. I'll take a look while I'm there.

Contact Lee Spring and they just might have a spring that will replace yours exactly in stock. Worst case they might have one close enough to work, or given the dimensions of your spring be able to custom make one.

Thanks for the link, Wayne. I didn't know how little I knew about springs!

I made a replacement spring out of a garage door conterbalance spring. Just cut cut an extra coil or two--heat to form the tangs, mine is now two-three years in service with no problems. Bama.

That is a good Idea Bama. Unfortunately those springs are too large to fit.

Thanks for the reply.

A short well placed bungee cord should do the trick.

Is there a spring shop anywhere in your area? They could make you a new spring. Check with a truck shop, if they can't do it they should be able to tell you who could do it.

Do you have the end that broke off? I made some springs up earlier this year. I was easy once I made a jig. After I formed it up I tourched up to cherry red and quinched it in oil till cold.

Hey Andy.

I don't have the other arm that broke off as the jack has been needing repair for quite a while.

From the mount position it looks like the spring arms would be on opposite sides, and would lay flat on a table with the round spring pointing up.

if you could make one up I would buy it.
