I thought you were joking until I clicked on the Snap On site. I didn't even know they made a 2 1/2 inch drive.

Those would come in handy if you ever needed to watch repair.

Wow, I thought some of my tools were a bit expensive. I think size to price about the most expensive tool I've got would be a 4" #5 spline drive socket. The last price I got on one that size was a touch over $600 and there was a minimum order of 12 pieces in order to get one.

once in a while ( very in-frequently ) we use a 2 1/2" impact gun & sockets at work ( steel plant with very big gearboxes etc etc )
the gun hangs on a crane, and 2 guys hold the handles sheet, making me tired just thinking about it LOL

Just think, Big Muskie would make even the 125 yard machines look like babies. Over the years I've worked on alot of the smaller machines from Northwest, BE, American, etc, and they aren't really that small.

Dad and I did a job reworking a 71B Bucyrus about 9 years ago that consisted of undecking and gutting the lowers, and everything coming off the upper but the engine and TQ. It was about a 19 week job from start to finish but the customer wound up with basically a new machine when we were done. Currently I've got one customer that has a 190D Northwest that he bought just before the economy collapsed. It was never reassembled from the transport, and is still sitting in his quarry in pieces. Given that Dad got out of the business a few years back, I guess I'll get to put together myself as soon as things get turned around and the customer gets some money to play with. Given all we did to the BE, I know the Northwest is going to be a huge undertaking too. I can only imagine what would be involved with a machine that will swing a 125 yard bucket.

That is a big tool to swing! I think we are in heavy territory when we break out the 1" torque multiplier and the 2 1/2" socket. Then we do turn them by hand, arms, legs, hang from the handle, stand on the bar...
There are some big nuts out there!
