Was told by the local sawmill not to do anything to larch at all and to leave douglas fir for 2 years before putting anything on it. Figure he knows what he's talking about... Stuff does get ugly with weather tho if not covered (treated)some way...

Hopefully some of that 60" of rain comes by right after your diesel soaked building catches fire. Might keep it from spreading to your neighbor's place.

I wouldnt brush/spray diesel on a building in reply to mjsnodgrass, 08-05-2012 18:47:25
Ive been using Olympic Brand clear wood preservative (Like $60 for a 5 gallon pail) and really like it and spray it on with my pump up garden sprayer. Linseed Oil is used by a lot of folks who seem to like it. If its a building (NOT a wagon bed etc) I dont think Id use oil or diesel fuel.

Ive had no less then 6 seemingly knowledgeable and experienced lumber yard workers and/or contractors tell me NOT to use Thompsons saying its all about advertising and marketing but its NOT as good as many of the other brands. I have used it but it just didnt seem to soak in and seal and leave the wood where water beads up on it like Olympic and other brands Ive tried.

I like Olympic and I'm sure others have their preferences and opinions including other brands or linseed oil etc etc so best wishes in your decision, its gonna be your money and your choice

If you just want to protect the wood I would prime it and paint it. If you are wanting the natural color I would use a wood preservative called Penofin Red Label. Diesel would smell and make the shed highly flammable.

Go to a lowes, or HD and get a bucket of primer or paint that is 1/2 off due to a color that was a little off from what customer wanted. I would think diesel would not due much for protecting wood, but better than nothing.
