I have an older Homelite generator, with a Honda Engine. Engine is OK, but not as reliable as older Honda engines.(I have had quite a few over the years)
After a year of intermittent use, the Homelite generator started to act up, popping breakers, even with with minimal load on the unit. Nearest Homelite 'dealer' won't touch it as it was built when Homelite was going through some ownership issues and no one will claim responsibility.

I tried several independent shops- no one, and I mean NO ONE, would touch it.

On the other hand, My 100% Honda generator/ inverter (so I can run anything on it), was bought at a Honda dealer and it runs like a top.

Avoid the big box stores for anytihng like this; it is false economy.

Additionally, many of the Japanese OHV engines are apparently now assembled in Japan, but with cheap components sourced from China and elsewhere. These are the cheaper "Japanese' models sold at Big Box stores.

Anyone want a Homelite boat anchor?

Stephen

Hey Stephen, circuit breakers go bad sometimes. First thing I would change. Not too pricey. Dave

At my shop. I refuse to work on any big box generator. I am tired of spending my time trying to find parts for them. Then have the customer complain because I took to long to fix it.If it is not a major brand. Don't bring it to me.I have enough of them in the junk pile.

For the most part, no one repairs a TV like the old days. No one fixes a computer that is a few years old, they throw them away. No one repairs a microwave, they throw them away. I could go on, I think you get my point, many electrical devices go bad, you throw them away. Looks like the evil BIG BOX STORES are responsible for causing us to just throw things away.

Been wondering why we want to blame BOXES? Isn't everything made put in a BOX before they ship it? Are LITTLE BOX STORES to blame too:) I find humor in how we have created buzz words, like BOX STORES to get are point across.

The real problem is we live in a throw away society and some don't like it.

I whole heartedly agree wit you . People just don t understand the problems that arise from the grief you get trying to find info parts for items like that. The big Box Storesdon t care as long as they can sale the products, They say take it to the repair shop , but they don t seem to care if the shop doesn t carry parts for the repairs or can t locate them . Often even the Manfactures can t seem to help.

I have a stihl saw and brushcutter. Bosch cordless trimmer and cordless hedge trimmer that cost enough but don't have to be worried about.

my 200 buck grocery store generator, the 10 buck bb store angle grinders, drills, saws, and other tools have lasted years for the amount of use I need. If I throw either of them away tomorrow and go by a new replacement, I'll be money ahead over taking a name brand to a 60+ buck an hour shop or to a shop where I have to tell some ole coot where I got it before he'll trouble himself to look at it (just a tiny little jab there Billy :) ).

My Retarded son-in-law bought a John Deere riding
mower from a "big Box Store"..I told him not to,
but he always does opposite of what I say. Local
JD dealer won"t work on it,(warrenty) Big box
says to take it to local dealer. I say that he got a "Special Cheap Model made for Big box Store"! Wife says,"Quit laughing at him..he hates
you enough already, because you"re always right" !

There can be (maybe not always but often) a MAJOR problem when you buy a cheap built noisy genset from some pencil necked pimpled know nothing geek at a Big Box Store versus buying from a REAL DEALERSHIP. I'm talkin down the road service,,,,,,,parts availability,,,,,,,,warranty work,,,,,,,about any info or help or support if/when the unit stops working.

I have no problem with a persons individual choice, its his money and decision for what and where to buy, thats fine by me. Im ONLY saying generally speaking you get what you pay for so buy an off brand cheap made unit (theres a reason theyre cheaper ya know) at a Big Box Store or buy a higher quality and longevity unit with repair and service and parts availability from a Real Dealership BUT DONT THINK THEY ARE THE SAME !!!!!!!!!! Unless you like to kid yourself, its sort of a pay me now or pay me later proposition if you plan to own and use the unit a longgggggggggg time.

BUT AGAIN ITS THE MONEY AND CHOICE OF THE INDIVIDUAL THAT MATTERS AMD IM CERTAINLY NOTTTTTTTTTTTT AGAINST ANY PERSON WHO SHOULD BUY WHAT SUITS HIS NEEDS AND POCKETBOOK. I've done BOTH in my life and from experience formed the opinion if you use a unit long and often and hope to get years of trouble free service from (any tool actually) it, buy a better quality unit from a well established real dealership versus wally World etc

Thats my story (and lifes experience) and by golly Ima stickin to it LOL

Take care yall, John T
