Squirrels ate my melons, looking for moisture, this year as we had a dry spring. They get a lot of my sweet corn also. I always plant way more than we need and give away what the critters and I can't eat.

Only suggestion I can offer is fry the young ones and boil the older ones for stew or dumplings.
I did stumble on to something that helps some with coons. Several years ago my SIL shelled some decorative"Indian"corn and had my brother plant 2 rows while he was planting a small field of corn. Those 2 rows looked as if a vehicle had drove down the rows and back. By the time the coons finished eating 95% of the Indian corn, the rest of the field was almost past milk and very little damage was done to it. Planting some indian corn each year has helped because, quick and easy to look for coon damage starting, locating traps, concentrating the varmits and knowing where to shine the spotlight. BTW,set plenty traps in each location because if you catch a young one momma and the others will be back and possiably get in one of the other traps.
Useing the c word isn't prohibited here is it?

One squirrel will eat 1/100 bu corn pe day
or about a bushel and a half per year. You sure you want to be worrying about losing $10 to a squirrel? I'll bet you spill more than that making drinks or opening beer.
I'm losing 160 bushels per acre right now. Get a grip!

Now now, keep your shirt on, just keep your shirt on. While it may not have occurred to you he may be dealing with more than a solitary squirrel here. I figured it out right away.
