Says nothing on it about it being for R 134. I bought it with 2 full 50# recovery canisters of R 12 And about 1/2 can of R 22 in an auction today. It looks like new. Gave $210 for it all including a video instruction tape. Any reason why it won't work with R 134 besides the fittings ?

The filtering system is different. You would also need to clean all of the old oil out of the reclaimer. R12 and R134A compressor oil will not work mixed. It forms tar like balls. Plugs up all types of things in a system.

More problem's than it's worth & that's why these usually end up illegaly in a landfill. Thanks to the EPA you probably broke more laws than you can shake a stick at just by carrying it home. Getting rid of the R12 could get quite expensive & you can't even do that if the recovery jug is out of date. Without the correct epa certification it's illegal for you to have or even touch either jug.

Should consider changing the oil in the recovery unit if you are going to use it for recovering R-134a. Should use polyolester oil for R-134. The recovery unit probbly has mineral oil installed for Recovering the R-12.

Before I did anything with it I"d call White and ask them what all it can be used for and what actually needs to be done if you switch between refrigerant types. I know as others have stated that with some units you have to change the compresor oil but there are also units made that are designed to switch between types without having to do much of anything. Depending on what model you have there might be a manual for it downloadable from their site also.

The way I was taught the 134 will eat up some of the steel that was used in the 12-22 systems. Got my licence but then never used it because of the EPA. 20+year ago and forgot most of what I learned.

Hello msb,
If you have 2 59# vessels full of R12, you may have enough money to buy a very nice recovery sustem for R134a.
6 years ago R12 was going for $69 to $70 per OUNCE! If you can sell it to someone that has a need for it, even at $70 per pound would be nice.

Hello lucas boy,
I posted without reading your post. R12 is very expensive. I have some R22, hope i can make some money on that.
