Kohler Courage 20 hp engine parts

Hey Guys,

Does anyone know where I can order parts for a 20 hp. Kohler Courage cheap . If I can find them cheaper than what the prices the guy was already quoted then I can get a better deal on a Campbell Hausfield 3500 watts 120 volt generator . I'll post later on the generator. I need a new crankshaft, new rod , new rings and a new gasket set. The motor is about a 2006 model and was ran low on oil and now is locked up.

Thank you ,
Whizkidkyus

have you tried small engine warehouse, they have lots of whole surplus motors that can be had cheaper then rebuilding your currant block, they have some parts also

The engine hasn't been taken apart yet ,so we're not exactly sure what we need. We are right now just trying to get an idea. The parts dept. where he works looked them up and gave him some prices ( which I don't have wrote down , but was told ) and if I can find them cheaper in other places then I get a better deal on the generator. In other words , I save him some money and I save myself some money. The motor is a Kohler Courage, 20 hp.,single piston. Model # SV 600-002. Below is the parts list for what he said to check on . His quoted price was about $250.00. I'm finding various prices on different websites.

Kohler Part # ( from Kohler website )

Crankshaft = 20-014-20-S
Rod = 20-067-04-S
Rings = 20-108-01-S
Shortblock = 20-522-05
Oilseals = 20-032-01-S
Piston w/Rings = 20-874-01-S
Crankshaft Kit = 20-014-24-S

Thanks,

You can try the jackssmallengines for parts at
1-877-737-2787. You may be money ahead by buying a short block from the smallenginewarehouse. Hal
PS: Jack may have a short block too.

Does the engine have a low oil shutoff? If it does maybe it"s not frozen after all. Maybe a dropped valve?

Not sure about the valve but I think it might have had one replaced ( or was it the generator that I posted about , told me about both today and I can't remember which one this applied to) But I tried to turn the fly wheel . It would not buldge either way. It did have a oil leak but they replaced the oil and it didn't help any.

Thank you ,

I bought a Ridgid twin tank electric air compressor for $10 because it wouldn't run. I took the motor out and it was OK. I found the compressor was run without oil and the rod welded itsef to the crank. With nothing to lose, I forced the crank back and forth until it eventualy broke loose. I used a file and sandpaper to clean up the parts, put it back together, added oil and it works fine. Since it's only used occasionaly, it will probably outlast me.

Pull the cylinder head & oil pan. Then see what the cylinder looks like and unbolt the connecting
rod. If the cylinder is score may need to be rebored & the crankshaft ground undersize. You will probably need to buy a new piston and rod. Hal
