2 cycle Carb Adjustment Tool

Does anyone out there have for sale, or know where I can find, an adjustment tool for the carburetor mixture screws? What I have is a Poulan chain saw that ran OK when I purchased is from Lowe's this summer when it was 95 degrees outside, but won't run without constant choking now than it's down around 25 degrees. None of the small engine shops around here have anything. Rather than a screwdriver slot, etc., the screws are splined.

the end of the handle of the bar adjust/spark plug wrench that came with it should have the spines cut in it

Got mine from a guy on E-Bay. Sears (Craftsman) also sells them. Usually a 1/8" turn of the mixture screw is all it needs. Long nose fishing hemostats or pliers work in a pinch.

I've tried using needle nose pliers, but to no avail. I've checked on Ebay but could not find them. I'll try Craftsman.

I too had a similar problem on a Poulan. The problem persisted even after carb adjustments, but as soon as I replaced the gasoline filter in the tank it started running just fine.
Good luck

A repair shop I deal with uses a piece of gas line. He heated it enough to slide it on. When cooled the grooves are in it. Said it works real well.

Carburators do not need periodic adjustment. Once thay are set, there is nothing other then a malfunction, that will alter adjustment. You most likely have a restriction within the carburetor. Clean and the problem may be solved.

You better call Husqvarna and tell them they are all wrong. My Husqvarna manual say.
"The setting of the carburetor means that the engine is adapted to local conditions, for example, the climate, altitude, fuel and the type of 2-stroke oil."
I have 2 Husqvarna saws. One has a winter kit in it. No adjustment needed. The other one has to be adjusted or it stalls out in the cut in the winter time.

I ran a small engine shop and sold Husky products. This is the first time I have ever heard this. If the mans saw was running fine and then started giving problems, I dought that a chance in elevation caused this. My Husky saws have never needed adjustment for weather conditions in over 25 years. When they won't idle or have a stumbling problem, I clean the tank and carb. I never readjust the carb because it was adjusted right to begin with.

just did mine today Poulan 3314 i think. pull top cover off remove foam air filter pull screw out of red off on switch remove switch then remove the two nuts that hold carb and one screw [torques head] and the cover around the adjustment jets will be easy to get at give high speed one 1/4 turn out with a pliers put back to gather 15 minn. time. mine ran fine in the summer but at 0 it would boug down opened it up and cuts like he11 now. them jet screws look like a torques in male

A winter kit redirects the air by the jug to prewarm the air. My one saw has a removable cover by the carb. Flip it open and most of the intake air is warmed before going into the carb. You can also get heated handles for some saws.

Spline carb.adjustment screws are one of the two TAMPER PROOF set-up for mixture screws on the 2 stroke carbs. I think this is the EPA at work again. Part of the MOST FEARED WORDS IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE " I am from the government and I am here to help you" ONLY DEALERS are to have the tools. The dealer I do a lot of business with sold me one of the splined tools. The other style is a round screw with a flat on it. One fourth inch OD brake line and a hammer will make a tool for it.

Where do you get that BS from? About the only carbs that don't require adjustment are those that are mounted on computer controlled engines. I don't think too many saws fit that description, at least not yet. Now that the idiots are about to take office I'm sure that will change.

READ my reply again!! I was only trying to help. I said periodic (occasionally). Any body should know that a carburetor has to be adjusted for the engine it is on. I stated that Carburetors don't need re-adjustment if they are adjusted properly the first time. I have worked on small engines all my life and made a good living because I know what I am doing.
SORRY I tried to help you. Just forget my B.S.!

Although a carb may have been adjusted when initaly installed on an engine, conditions are subject to change, and change they will, especially on a two stroke engine. I appreciate you trying to help, but I really think you are getting more than a little defensive.

I was not calling your advice B.S. What I was trying to say is that someone had fed you B.S. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I got mine at local small engine parts store was about 7 bucks I beleive that they are for walbro carbs and try searching ebay taht way.

Have you looked on ebay or at a Small Engine Repair Shop? I bought two of them (don't ask) on ebay at the same time. You may also try Billou's on line. They sell a lot of Poulan parts and accessories.
