Has anyone messed around with one? Neighbor brought his over and said it wouldn't start, no spark. I looked at the armature and it looked ok and was clean with a runable clearance to the flywheel. So I pulled the flywheel expecting to find some ignition parts and nothing. I'm thinking this 2 cycle just uses the flywheel and armature, not that familiar with 2 cycles. I did unhook the kill switch and didn't help. I'm planning on calling the Mantis company tomorrow to see what they say, luckily their number was on the tiller, someplace in Penn. State. thanks chris

Called the company today, and they said you can't see or feel the spark, low voltage/amperage system. When I was messing with it last night I did put fresh gas in it and from then till now the new gas must have cleaned it. It started right up tonight with little effort. Thanks anyway, should have pulled a little longer last night. chris

Can't FEEL the spark, huh? Are you brave enough to try that and report back????

(I know I wouldn't! I HATE shocks!)

I first tried the plug in the boot against the frame and no spark, then I when ahead and held a screwdriver in the boot with my hand on the frame. Trust me, I don't pull very fast at first, but a little faster until I feel a zap. Don't like getting shocked either, but its a good test. chris

New plug but still no spark? Coil ground / shut off wire not chaffed or otherwise grounded?

Before you call Mantis you need to recover the motor information on the little silver tag on the housing. That tells them vintage and motor manufacturer. New coil is about $50 plus $7 shipping.

If it doesn't spark with the kill switch unhooked, the combination coil/electronic module has gone to semiconductor heaven.
