I think WW was bought out by TroyBilt which was acquired by Sears. I had a WW Tomahawk model, no longer have it or any paper work. You might try Sears repair service to see if the machines are the same. Good luck, Pete

It wasn't Sears that bought the "debris systems" (chipper shredders, etc.) from the bankrupt Gardenway Mfg. (aka Troy Bilt) it was Roper. MTD bought the tiller and mower lines. The dealership I was working for when that happened declined to sign with either new parent as we knew they would take good old products and turn them into ***t. Plus we would have to do warranty work for all the local "big box" stores who want to sell products but not have to support them with parts and service.

Hi IanC. I think you're the guy that can tell me what I have and what it's worth. In December of 1989 I purchased The PTO Tractor-Mounted Super Apache-Model 240C Chipper/Shredder/Grinder from W W Grinder Inc. of Wichita Kansas with optional 1/8th", 3/8th", and 1/2" screens along with (6) Rods and Rollers for $1600 plus shipping. I have all of the original sales and owner's paperwork. This unit is in Excellent condition, used for only a few months and then stored in our farm building. I had to get a "real job" then and now would like an estimate of the value of this fine unit. It also has a heavy duty 20" cylinder, Large 25" x 27" top hopper, 3 pin Category 1 & 0, 3 point hitch, Extra Heavy Duty 1/2" thick plate steel Chipper flywheel with 2 diamond-hard tool steel Chipper Blades and a long life cast iron maine frame. It's recommended for tractors 10 H.P. to 28 H.P. and works flawlessly. It also has the original PTO shafts, guards, and warning signs. A local Organic Farm operator is showing interest in it and i would love to donate it to him but i am disabled now and money is a necessity. In your opinion, what is a fair asking price for my WW Grinder? As a welder, I don't understand the cry for parts as this unit's parts can easily be fabricated or purchased in the case of bearings, belts, screens, etc. as needed. Thanks, PHV.

Ian, that is something I always wondered about. The Big chain stores sell a large percentage of mowers , etc. How does the warranty work on that stuff ??? Seems the big stores are passing all the troubles off on the local guy that has a shop. I see the same thing. I am in the tool & die business. Many jobs I quote on, customer says China is cheaper... They get it done there, but then expect me to make it work.....

People don"t realize that those big chain stores are making MORE on that piece of equipment than their local dealer, because they are buying enough units to "negotiate" lower prices from the suppliers. Then those big box stores can sell at a lower price because they don"t have to stock parts, do warranty work which doesn"t always get paid fully (they NEVER pay diagnosis time), or pay to send their techs to school every year to keep up with manufacturers requirements. And you can bet that big box store probably got a tax break from your local goverment to locate in your fair city too. Sorry, enough soap for today.

Thanks, I had always wondered how that worked. I did hear from a friend that worked at one of the big stores that they make the manufactuers eat the cost on returned & damaged stuff. He said someone bought a new riding mower, brought it back the next day... had rolled it over in a ditch, & torn up the hood. They gave him a new mower..... I am also well aware of the tax breaks.... A Big Auto Co. came here, seems the state & County gave them around 150 million... But they tax our little shop on everything in it...
