Rd hay bale

It really depends on the type of hay and the baler. In good alfalfa your bales can weight up to 1500 lbs. Dry grass hay would be more in the 1000-1200 lbs. per bale. Now high moisture hay that is going to be wrapped can weight over a ton. Then the other side is straw will usually weight 800-900 Lbs. per bale.

Like JD says, lots of difference in bales and balers. The early 4x5 probably didn't weigh much over 5-600. My Gehl is supposed to be a 1200 pound baler, but in reality, good dry hay, they average around 900.

My NH 648 with the chamber pressure cranked up makes a 950lbs 4x5 in dry hay and they are tight enough that they are hard to spear and never loose shape. In Silage like I just baled this morning they can be around a ton.
