cleaning gas tank

Too good to be true: Bought what appears to be a new Predator 4375 generator with the 212 Predator engine. When I went to pick it up, it started right up, ran smooth for a minute, and I bought it. Got it home and found it would ran for maybe a minute and a half, then shut down. OK - fuel delivery problem. I look in the gas tank (again, this is by all appearances a new machine) and I see what seems to be a layer of fine tan/orange rust settled on the bottom. You can take a screw driver and stick it down there and it just swirls around like fine sediment. Now again, the tank itself seems brand new and I have no idea how that stuff got in there and though I assume it's rust, I'm really not sure what it is. Maybe they poured gas from an old rusty can in there first thing, and when it wouldn't run for more than two minutes, they thought it would be easier to find a sucker like me than it would be to fix the problem. My question is: what's the best way to clean out the tank. Again, I don't think I have a rusty tank, just fine sediment rust IN the tank.
Thanks
