Need plug for IHC engine.

The coolant drain plug has disappeared from my IHC 1.5-2.5 HP Type LB engine.

Might anyone know what size/thread pitch I'll need to replace it?

It's a common NPT (National Pipe Thread) plug, probably 1/2", available at any hardware store.

I will try to remember to check my "LB" tomorrow and post back to be sure.

Or, look at the chart below. At the right are the "industry sizes" of plugs and at the left is the nominal diameter of the threads at the "large" end, compare that to the measurement of the drain opening, the opening will be a little smaller than the plug dimension listed for a given size.

Yes, I concur. I finally remembered to check my LB yesterday, and it is a 1/2" pipe plug, for sure.

Might you guys have a part number?

I tried a generic half-inch pipe plug and it only goes in 1.5 revolutions.

It is not a plug. A short 1/2 “nipple Goes in then a cap With the two ears
just like on the tractor rads.

Can you post a picture so I'll have a better idea what to look for?

You can use a 1/2" pipe nipple and a 1/2" pipe cap if you so choose (both common hardware store items) in place of a simple 1/2" pipe plug but you will still need to clean the threads in the engine with a 1/2" NPT tap if you want them to engage more than a thread or two.

Ebay item #283867540398 is an example of the tap you need.

A 1/2" pipe plug or brass spigot is all I've seen used in them. Neither of them screw in that far. They're only in by a turn or two so it's easy to
drain them in the winter. If you over tighten them, they'll crack the casting or at least, get stuck. The plug or spigot are meant to be left out in
freezing temps so as not to leave any water behind to crack the casting. Should be a standard tapered thread.
