Congratulations on owning a classic old engine!

I have NO information to offer specific to your engine, but in general a typical starting point for setting the mixture screw is 2 or three turns "out", and that's really meaningless, because they all have there own personalitys, and the setting where it runs best for what you are doing with it is all that matters.

As to the timing, base timing has to be @ TDC or slightly after, or the engine will "kick" while being cranked.

Many old engines have a spark timing advance once running, either automatic or manual, but that's another matter, "base timing" has to be as I wrote, or things get ugly!
