another onan question

I have an onan engine that will run when you pour gas in the carb. We rebuilt the the carb and put on a new fuel pump on carb still same deal. Is there something special we have to do to get it to pump. the tank is above the carb so it is gravity fed also. we put on new fuel lines and hoses too.

Is the "pulse" hose from the fuel pump to the crankcase intact, and open?

NOT sure if some issue with the crankcase ventilation system could affect the pulses needed to operate the fuel pump, mite B something to look at.

On the other hand, less than $20 will get you a low pressure electric fuel pump on ebay.

I have converted several of my Onans.

Switch on the ignition, wait a few seconds for the electric pump to fill the carb, then they start instantly, vs. extended cranking waiting for that (stupid) pulse operated pump to get the job done.

I agree with Bob go electric. Low pressure 3 pounds is best. Those pulse pumps have always been trouble. Don't know what Onan was thinking.

I have a Oman on a Case 446 garden tractor with the original factory fuel pump. Runs just fine.

Runs just fine till it doesn't run anymore! I bought a replacement fuel pump for my B48G Onan 16-17 years ago, over $100 back then! Reason it died was oil vapors covering ignition points, they looked like they had been dipped into 90 weight gear oil! Great idea Onan to put points INSIDE the crankcase where hot oil vapors can accumulate.

Onan did ALOT of stupid things on their engines, combine that with loose tolerances on machining, heard they liked to drop exhaust valve seats that weten't tight enough in their bores,

Onan's are on the bottom of my list of favorite engines. Have the B48G in a 982 Cub Cadet, tractor is great, engine is NOT.
