John Deere Model E

I have been wanting to get a hit and miss engine for a long time. But with so many options I was kind of like a deer in headlights. Do I want a mag or spark plug, what brand, how big. So anyway I have bought a few engines lately and have learned alot. First I bought a "hit and miss" International LA only to realize its a stationary engine but not a hit and miss. Second I bought a 1917 Majestic not running and missing the fuel tank and hand crank. It is a 3hp. WAY to big to move around. So the other day I buy a John Deere model E. Dont know the year but would like to know how I find out. It doesnt run but is a one owner as far as I know. Kid I bought it from said it was his grandpa's and it has been sitting in an old wooden grainery. Anyway the mag and not hot and I know nothing these things. Does that mag have points in it I can change? How do you get it off? Who rebuilds those things?

I dont know if I got a good deal I paid $350 for it without a cart. Anyway Thanks for your help and feel free to email me at [email protected]

Must be the small one? At $350, you literally STOLE it!

The mags are "low tension", and anything but "hot", even at their best!

Mag bearing holders and housing are made of "pot metal" and very breakable. Think there's some repro parts out there.

You can download a parts catalog direct from DEERE for FREE (.pdf format. "E" engine section starts on Page 324 (.pdf page 335). There's a few odd parts, and maybe some gaskets still available from DEERE.
