It sparks exactly when the spark mark is aligned. needs a gas tank so I have not messes with it in a good while.

Spark should NOT happen at the spark mark when hand cranking. That is the running mark. When hand cranking the impulse should release, or snap at or very near TDC. Thus us cannot kick back when both timed and operating correctly. Then if you have the correct impulse coupling and if the points are correctly set spark will occur at the SPARK mark when running. I have never been kicked by my LUC.
