Detroit 453 turns over slow but wont start

I just replaced the head , head gasket ,n45 injectors , injector lines . I got fuel to the injector lines. Motor turns over slow and hard puffs a little smoke but won't fire up even with either . All help would be appreciated

They gotta turn over fast to start....heat of compression is what makes a diesel
fire. Boost or tow if possible. Ben

Did you set the injector timing after installing the head? This is very critical to good starting. In addition to setting the injector timing, setting up the rack that controls how much
fuel the injectors get is very important. I've had many Detroits over the years and worked on them myself. However, when I had my first one (6V53) when I put in new injectors not
knowing how critical the settings are I had a runaway on the first start up. The only way to get the engine stopped is to pull the emergency shut off which stops it from getting air.
I'm saying all this for you to make sure the emergency shut off works.
You mention that you have fuel to the injector lines...have you pumped the whole fuel gallery full of fuel? It will generally take a manual primer pump hooked up to the fuel system
a good bit of pumping 'til all the air is out of the system, without doing this a Detroit can be very hard to start. On the contrary with everything being right they start very easy
with a puff of ether. Let us know how you make out.

thank you for all your help . A buddy of mines going to set the valve and injector heights as well as the rack. I used a manual primer pump to get fuel going through the system but if you crack the injector lines there still seems to be air bubbles but he told me to leave it alone until he gets there tomorrow just in case it runs away . I'll keep everyone posted as to the out come tomorrow
