Wisconsin THD with prestolite generator

Old 1966 era Hale fire pump now used for irrigation, powered by a Wisconsin THD.

Put an Airtex 9084 fuel pump on like the original to eliminate the jury rigged electric pump...I don't like problems with electric fuel pump running on...

Runs good, but no charging. Prestolite generator is inline with all kinds of other functions, so I really don't want to touch it until I have some idea of what's up.

The brush cover is unbolted, so previous owner had his mitts in there.

How do I test output, etc., before tearing it out?
If it's not working, must I pull it out to repair?
How do I pull it for rebuild without disrupting/creating a problem?

Serial # THD 4172855
Spec # 268684

How long will one of these engines run on a good charged battery if it doesn't charge? Too bad it doesn't have a mag.

I looked it over and decided it would come apart easier than I first thought. When separating, I was careful to not disturb the timing of the gear to case, and punch marked it.

Brought it to the local alternator rebuild guy, and when looking at it, I asked how it got power output to the battery? It had a cutout with one wire attached. It needed a second wire to the battery, of course, so I took it home, timed and remounted it, and fired it up. Then ran a wire to the battery from the empty cutout terminal, and it was operational. I tested it by removing the battery cable from the post, and it ran on its own.
