John Deere Modle E 11/2 HP

The above engine was running fine but was leaking oil into the gas tank. So I took it apart and installed new gaskets and oil pan bottom. I did not do anything else to the engine and now the darn thing won't start. It is not pumping fuel. I took the fuel line off and the check valve appeared to be ok. I could suck on the gas line and it would pump fuel. After many attempts and the engine not starting (it is not pumping gas) I bought a new fuel line assembly off ebay. The darn thing still will not pump fuel. The vent hole by the gas tank filler hole is open. I am at my witts end as to what the problem could be. I know it is fuel related because I can choke the engine or hold my thumb over the carb and it will not suck up fuel and wet. Any ideas? Thanks

Have you got it running? It sound like it is not pulling fuel because of a leak and sucking air. Which way is the slot in the mixing barrel ? If I remember it has to be horizonal to work correctly. And maybe it needs to be vertical. One way or the other it has to be in either position to run correctly.
