Wisconsin air cooled engine

Recently acquired a Wisconson engine VE4 serial no. J775215.Does anyone know what year it came out? Also VERY little compression put oil in spark plug holes, did not help.Where are gaskets available?I thank you very much GP

All of the Wisconsin V's were bad about valves sticking if set a while. You can get parts at Pitt Auto Electric Co. 800-245-0711 they a authorized Wisconsin dealer. If you need parts numbers,I have parts books. Mail open

From the archives, take a look. I got many parts from Ebay.
Rock Creek consulting is another source but I have never used them yet.

According to a list that was posted by a member of this forum
several years ago your engine is a late 1946 model.

We salvaged a little Wisconsin VE4-VF4 ? , odd fire engine from a very old county salt / sand spreader. It had been parked for a very long time and valves and rings and pistons were very stuck. We flooded the cylinders with a 50% / 50% mix of ATF and Acetone which got the pistons unstuck after a couple days, but many valves were stuck. We did not want to even consider trying to remove the heads after so many years in the salt bath, suspected we would twist off every head bolt trying. We found we could push the stuck valves closed by inserting a 5/16 rod with a bit of a "J" bend through the spark plug holes. Spent several hours turning the engine to open valves, then turning the engine 1 turn more to lower the cam lobe and tap the valves down using the "J" rod. After about 50 up/ down cycles of the valves, the rust dissolved to the point that the valve springs could close the valves. We filled the crankcase with good high detergent diesel oil and ran the engine for several hours working hard. After the rings un stuck, the exhaust cleared and the little engine runs/ hand starts good.

We used it to power a McCormick Deering 22-36 we built from 3 partial parts donors. We had enough parts to make a steel wheel rolling chassis, but were far short of enough parts to make a complete 22-36 engine. We adapted the little odd fire Wisconsin to the 22-36 and made a good running parade toy, after fabricating the fuel tank, hood and side panels to make it look right.
