LB International Governor Problem

Canlogger

New User
Hey guys,

Just bought an LB International stationary engine that doesn't want to start. The governor butterfly in the mixer is in the closed position. How can I set it in the open position?

Thanks in advance

can you put your finger in there and move the butterfly at all? If you cannot, then I would pull the head and make sure the head was installed with the butterfly in the correct position. There is a little square coupling between the shaft coming from the governor inside the engine and the butterfly shaft,if the butterfly was put in the closed position when head was installed, that might cause your problem.

I also have an LB, but I'm not sure if the valve is even in there. Had it running and smooth as silk, but waay too fast (so fast that it bent the crank handle-pin must have been loose and flung the handle up into the soffit in my shop and made a dent in a truss ! Minutes before I was leaning over the thing !!). Do you have a proper diagram of how the setup is supposed to be. The reprint I have is crappy and not clear. Thanks.

Yes I can move the butterfly freely but it springs back to the closed position. Do you think I need to pull the head off and change the position?

Yep, sounds like you need to remove the head, open butterfly and reinstall the head with the butterfly in the open position.

I would take the back plate off the engine and make sure that you do not have a gov gear stuck or the little arm that goes to shaft to front of engine is not broken.
sounds like you have nothing hooked from the gear to the rod that controls the butterfly in the mixer.
