hercules 4cyl diesel Injection Timing

I find myself in the same situation, also have a D2300 and need to figure out the timing.

I know this is an old thread, but there was no conclusion.

This Hercules D2300 is in a brush bandit chipper, any idea what gas engine I could swap to?

Ford 300?

Bad news, while cranking yesterday on the D2300 something has broken, can't tell if it's inside the engine or near the starter, but it's making a terrible noise.

I bought it as a "project" chipper, but not knowing anything about this Hercules diesel I think I'm going to look for a Ford 300. I know a lot of chippers had that motor.

Does anyone have any idea how to govern a motor like that? (Ford 300)
 
You should be able to find a throttle control cable. Set the speed where you want it. Then lock it in place. I use to see them a lot on Ford power units.
 
One way to govern would be to use a Pierce belt driven governor. Do a search for Pierce governor, folyengines will have some helpful info.

Billy, good news the noise we were hearing was the cone of the starter broke off. I accidentally bumped the starter button before the fly wheel was fully stopped. Oops. Our local alternator shop had a new housing.

So we're back to timing or figuring out why it starts extremely hard and continually blows white smoke. Confident that it's not coolant as the level never changes... But the oil level raises. Pretty sure Fuel is getting in the oil as it's not milky at all.

Have taken the injectors to Diesel Injection Service in Grand Rapids and they checked out good. It has a Stanadyne DB2-4835 injection pump. Any help is greatly appreciated.
