Briggs - proper oil level

I have this 1950 B & S Model 23 FBC on a Shaw Tractor.
I don't have any manuals and want to make sure I'm running the oil level correctly.
It has the extension on the oil fill as you can see so it is somewhat difficult to see the level.
I've been running it at about the level of the gasket where the main engine block meets the bottom case. This equates to about 5 - 6 cups of oil.
Does this seem like the correct level?
The engine's been running good but just want to make sure.

I had a Briggs grain auger engine with that spring loaded oil fill cap setup. We always filled it to the top of the filler tube. Correct or not , I dont know ?? We never had a manual, just assumed you filled it to the top of the tube.

Just thought I'd let you know you are correct.
I found out it takes 64 os which brings the level almost up to the top of the tube.
Thanks
