Cracked float on Briggs 18 HP

After taking the carb apart on this twin Briggs and Stratton, I discovered the float was cracked. The replacement is plastic, so how do I adjust the float, as the tab just springs back. It runs so lean that the choke has to be half way out. Thankyou

As far as I know, the plastic floats are not adjustable. They _should_ be preset at the time of manufacture to put the float level at the correct position. Could also be that your main jet is partially plugged - or if adjustable, is set too lean.

Yeah, as jimg indicated, try adjusting the air/fuel mix, if that doesn't help or cure the problem, then likely you will need to dismantle and clean the carb. I used to buy the carb. cleaner that came in a gallon can and you soaked the parts in it, but lately I have had good success with spray cans that I purchase at WallyWorld.

I recently had the same issue with an OMC engine. Took the copper float to NAPA, was told to try patching with JB weld, that it will not disolve in gasoline. Applied to the crack and let it cure for a day. So far so good.
