Hey all. I posted on here about getting a Honda gx160 clone
generator running and it ended up having no compression so I
rebuilt it and it runs like a champ now but when I start it, it just
runs wide open the governor lever isn't over coming the spring
pressure. If I unhook the spring it idled fine and the governor
lever moves free and revs up and down. Did I mess somethin
up? Thanks soo much!

As a rule, generator engines were not made to idle. Since most power consuming devices require 60Hz AC current, the generator is designed to run at (usually) either 3600rpm or 1800rpm. Running at slower speeds gives incorrect frequency.

This think was like out of control revving out but stupid me after I looked at it the governor lever was loose on the shaft. Not totally sure how to set the governor but I put it in wide open position and then put the carb in wide open position and tightened it down. Now it's running a bit over idle with nothing hooked to it

You need to use a frequency counter to set it to 60Hz to be compatible with house current, appliances, tools, etc. Failing that, if you can get a tach, set it to either 3600 or 1800 for proper frequency. Most electrical loads are fairly tolerant of off-frequency AC, but then there is always that one.......
