Does anyone know what I should ask for a Fuller & Johnson 4 HP stationary engine, need to sell it to settle a estate but do not know how much to list it for, no idea if its complete or not been sitting in the barn forever Serial no. 17450 Thanks for any help anyone may supply

There are going to be a bunch of variables that come into play setting a value on it. Might you have some pictures of it? Here are some things to look at to help value wise: running or not, blow by in bore or stuck, on a cart or not, bearing condition for rod and mains (are there any shims left to adjust them up), magneto or no magneto, Is the igniter functional, fuel tank good or not (this will be under the engine in the base), valves worn in guides, is the mixer complete, What do the gears look like for wear. The value could vary from around $150 for a rusted hulk that might be only good for a parts unit to up to over $1800 for a very nice runner on a cart. This would be for the common "N" series of Fullers. The serial number dates it to late 1914. Well, I must say that it is a project. There are some items on it that would help with the price. The bad points are that the head is bad, no rocker arm or post, push rod gone, fuel tank is there but most likely bad. The positives are that there is a mag there (could be refurbished), ignitor is there, fuel filler and check valve are there. All said and done with out knowing the bearing or gear condition I would put a initial value of around $200 on it. The engine can be restored but the cost for that could run into quite a bit. Is it worth saving? Heck yea. The main expenses in restoring it would be the ignitor, mag (cost is depending on the main housing condition), cyl bore and piston (not knowing the condition until it would be tore apart), fuel tank, cranks guard, and bearings. They are nice engines when running and I hope you can find a good home for it.

Great, Really appreciate your help. Should I list it on a site like this one when ready to sell or should I try something like ebay. I am located at Northern Minnesota so would have to do a pick up only type of sale it would no doubt cost too much to ship it.
