Help with identifing a Hercules 4-cyl. engine !

Hello, It has been some time since I made a post on the YT site, here goes my question !
Recently, my son purchased this Hercules 4 cyl. engine and was wondering if anyone could determine the YEAR (it was made ), MODEL, and what type of equiptment it might have been used on ! Maybe just a "stationary" application or it might have been used as a generic engine, on a tractor ? It appears that the engine was never sold, so he MAY be the original owner, of this antique !
Thanks for your help, Lee Petrie, Joliet, IL.
Update 4-16-13 ; I have also added 3 more pictures ,the flywheel end , the serial number on the engine block, and the "name tag" on the mag, itself, I hope this helps ![/color:1a2ac51924]

Hi Billy, Thanks for the post reply on the Hercules engine , I have just posted 3 more pictures of the engine, what other views would be interest to see, to gain more knowledge, from your end ? Lee Petrie, Joliet, IL

I don't think it is a JX. It looks too small. Do you have any casting numbers off the block? How long is the engine? It is a 5 gear engine.

My son's (Tad) thoughts ;
I think it maybe a ZXB which was used in moline modelV and Avery tractors

There is also a ZXA which has the same external dimensions plus there are the Military ZX engines of which there must have been thousands of. Remember there are also ZX engines with 3 timing gears and ZX engines with 5 timing gears which you have. How do I contact you?
