The manifold ear broke off and let the gasket blow out. I ran it that way for a couple years on my Hesston, finally decided to fix it with a manifold off a parts engine. I got the nuts off the studs by running it til hot and putting beeswax on (in case this helps somebody). Running with no gasket has left the seat rough. Should I put anything on the seat and/or gasket?

Bernie,

I had one in to fix that the curve in the
manifold had straightened out some and the port
in the block burned away as well as the manifold.
acetylene welded both and machined both .
Had to build the manifold port sideways with
the weld to get the ports to line up .

I was gonna ask this general, but you probably know. Where the manifold seats the bolt area is lower than the gasket tops. How much is the manifold supposed to be tightened down? Do I use a torque wrench? What is the setting?

I couldn't find that around here. Useing a permatex product good for 700 degrees.

Bernie,

I think there is a slight boss where the
gasket seats . The genuine wisconsin book says
40 to 50 pounds torque .
