first im not a kid in in my mid 50's, ive seen the old hit and miss engines, when i worked at a repair center for oil field equipment to put myself thru college, they had several laying about the shop, which ran the pump jacks back then unfortunately back then i didnt really give them much thought, i picked up a book by peter rooke, on gas engine restoration awhile back, now im getting real interested in these old engines, still cant grasp the electrical system without a engine sitting here, but ill get it, now if i wanted to get one to play with, which would be the most common, [ ie which one has the best chance of finding parts if i need some] or does everything have to be made from scratch these days on a lath? also how much money are you guys having to invest in an old engine to get it to running condition?

If you are just looking for a "stationary engine" to play with, the McCormick Deering LA/LB series engines or Fairbanks engines are easy to work on and Hit N Miss enterprises has most of the common parts available. They are throttle governed engines, meaning they hit on every rotation of the crank. If yo are looking for a true hit n miss engine, get an Economy/Hercules or John Deere engine, though the Deere can be a little pricey to buy...go figure..John Deere...haha. simple to work on, parts, again at Hit N Miss Engerprises are pretty common and plentiful. Most, except for the Deere, yo will spend 2-300.00 to get them, if you are looking at the 1-2hp range, bigger, gets you into the 8-1500 range, the Deere will set you back, average about 750.00-1000 for the little 1-2 horse engine

I currently have 31 hit n miss and other engines on hand here in the lot. Located in Rocky Ford, Colorado. I never tried to start any of them, but the gentleman who owned them had a few running. He past away last December, and now I'm operating the dealership. Call or email me for a list of what I have on hand. Would like them be put to use. 719 440-1105
