E Deere 1 1/2 hp

I m looking at an E to buy and someones drilled and tapped for a vent in the top of the engine. Is this ok? Gas dripping as the engine runs is this normal? Thanks for any tips I m totally new here with these engines.....Bobby

The later E's had a vent to relieve the crankcase pressure. Otherwise they had a tendency to blow oil out the seals. The dripping gas isn't normal. The gas tanks on the E's liked to rust out. So check where the gas is coming from. That'll give you some idea how much work you're going to have to do once you get it home.
