Sears engine number conversion to Briggs

I am trying to cross reference an engine for a friend. He is restoring it and will need some information and probably parts for it The engine is in California at the moment. It is a Sears # 500 300515 124 . The numbers were hard to read. I know 500 was Brigg's supply number to Sears but not quite sure about the other numbers. It looks like a Briggs model "B" engine. Anyone got a cross reference? Thanks Gene Davis

NAPA auto parts has an,"Outdoor equipment parts"
catalog that has that Info. My NAPA store gave
me one free..depends on how much business you do
with your store if you get a free one.

You can figure out what engine you have by the TYPE number if you have a part book. I am away from my parts book at another computer. when I get to my parts book I will check if your engine is a Model B. If the coil is bad, I have a relative cheap way to fix the mag.

Yes, I think you engine is a Model B Briggs and if you have posted the serial number right, it was the last engine built in MAY of 1934, which was the first month the Model B was built.

Thanks Kent, I may need to ask for the coil fix. At the moment my friend in California hasn't got very far into it. Gene Davis

I have the armature from a Model B from a guy in Ca. now to repair. It is from a Kohler Gen. I am waiting on the new coil as STEN has shutdown for the holidays. Could this be the same guy you are speaking of?
