John Deere E

Hello, I have a John Deere 1 1/2 HP with the serial number of 259412. I believe this dates it to 1926. However, it does seem to have a crankcase breather which I believe was on later engines. Could that part have been updated onto an older engine? Engine did run this summer but I cannot get it started now. Gas is not old and there is a spark, but very little. I am hoping to sell it in the spring when I can get it out of my garage.

With the good gas we have now, if mine sits for a month or so, I pull the fuel line and clean the check valve. It tends to stick.

The crankcase covers for the 1 1/2 horse Model E are interchangable. I put the one with the breather on my Model E that did not originally come with the one with a breather. Helps with the oil leakage a little. Let me know when your ready to sell it. I may be interested. I love these old Deeres. My email is [email protected]

I agree about the check valve. They seem to get gummed up pretty bad if the engine sits for a while. Just take it out and clean it up. As far as the spark, how good is your plug wire?
